The Saratoga County History Roundtable has joined with the Saratoga County Historical Society, in launching a “Save Brookside” Campaign to forestall the potential closing of Brookside Museum in Ballston Spa.
Since its founding in 2018, SCHR has considered Brookside their home and have worked together on a number of history initiatives, including the relaunch of the Saratoga County history journal Gristmill, making local history accessible to Saratoga County fair-goers, and are currently working together on making Oral History narratives available online.
In this campaign, leaders of both organizations are pooling their efforts to conduct a grassroots campaign by reaching out to SCHS and SCHR members, local history buffs and concerned citizens, Saratoga County town and village historical societies, local governments, municipal historians and business partners.
The initiative hopes to raise $100,000 by March 2020 to “Save Brookside Museum.” In a parallel effort, a Saratoga County Historical Society task force will be working to restructure their organization.
Supporters are seeking new approaches to ensure the long-term viability of this community asset, which includes rotating exhibits, archival treasures, youth and adult education programs, a local history research library, and more.
Donations can be made through the SCHS/Brookside Museum website.
