Eight honorees have been selected by a jury of preservation professionals to receive the 2019 Excellence in Historic Preservation Award. They will be honored at the Preservation League of NYS “Excellence in Historic Preservation” awards ceremony, set for Thursday, May 9th, 2019 at 6 pm, at the New York Yacht Club, 37 West 44th Street, New York.
The League’s statewide awards program has been honoring notable achievements in retaining, promoting, and reusing New York State’s irreplaceable architectural heritage since 1984. The 2019 award recipients will be honored in New York City.

The League believes that in New York State, preservation and reuse of historic buildings is fundamental to the economic revitalization of our cities, towns, and villages. The restoration of historic neighborhoods, Main Streets, and underutilized buildings continues to create jobs, provide housing, promote tourism, stimulate private investment, and conserve energy, resources, and open space. By highlighting the best preservation projects in New York State, the League hopes to recognize the dedication and skill of the advocates, architects, and craftspeople that make preservation happen. These awards also serve as case studies for neighborhood revitalization, adaptive reuse, building restoration, and architectural excellence.
As the Preservation League honors excellence in historic preservation, they will also look toward preservation’s future with the inaugural Zabar Family Scholarship. Following the Excellence Award presentation, three current students will receive a scholarship of $1,000 each in support of their studies in historic preservation. They are Tabitha O’Connell (SUNY’s University at Buffalo), Camille Sasena (Pratt Institute), and Ryan Zeek (Columbia University).
