The Saratoga Historical Society will hold their annual meeting at the Saratoga Springs History Museum (Canfield Casino on Congress Park) on Thursday, October 18 at 7 pm.
Following a short business meeting, Kyle Jenks will be appearing and performing as James Madison.
Besides being the fourth president of the United States, James Madison is commonly known as the “Father of the Constitution.” 231 years ago the constitution was signed by 39 delegates but that did not make the document official. It was the ratifying conventions of the individual states that secured our governmental system. Out of 12 ratifying conventions, (Rhode Island didn’t have one), New York’s was by far the most uncertain.
Pauline Maier in her definitive book: Ratification says: “Nowhere had the Constitution faced worse odds against ratification “as it now stands“ then it would face at the New York convention in Poughkeepsie.“ Remaining in character Jenks present Madison‘s perspective on his involvement with the Constitution’s ratification.
Capital District native Kyle Jenks and professional interpreter of President James Madison started a circuitous path to interpreting James Madison. Jenks has been performing as James Madison at the National Constitution Center for Historic Philadelphia. He also recently debuted his new stage play: James and Dolly: Opposites Attract.
This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required.
The History Museum is located in the Canfield Casino, 1 East Congress Street, Saratoga Springs. For more information click here or call (518) 584-6920.
