L2L_Logo_Final2-[Converted]The Board of Lakes to Locks Passage is inviting the public to attend their Annual Meeting on Thursday, October 10 from 10AM to 12 noon, at the Crandall Public Library, 251 Glen Street, Glens Falls, NY.  The Lakes to Locks Passage Annual Meeting provides an overview of current activities and recent achievements for communities in the region.

This year’s guest speaker will be Gavin Landry, Executive Director of Empire State Development’s Tourism Division, addressing the future of tourism in New York State and how Lakes to Locks Passage can help play an active role in the brand of I Love NY.

Through the course of the last decade, Lakes to Locks Passage has been working with communities to create a great place to live – which is also a great place to establish a business, invest public resources and to visit.  Building on the partnership with National Geographic to develop a tourism experience that is “guided by locals,” Dorian Dickinson, of Great River Creative, will unveil the “Lakes to Locks PassagePort” mobile application for iPhone and Android platforms. The first PassagePort is a historic tourism itinerary for the Colonel Baum Expedition, developed for the Washington County Historical Society.

In a statement to the press Lakes to Locks Passage Executive Director Janet Kennedy said, “The Lakes to Locks PassagePort utilizes 21st century wayfinding tools to create an experience that encourages travelers to explore the landscape with a mobile app that is a cross between a thematic itinerary, scavenger hunt and geocaching.”  The mobile app utilizes turn-by-turn navigation with GPS location triggers to direct travelers along a theme-based route, providing on-site text, images, audio and video interpretation.
