collection needs assessment programGreater Hudson Heritage Network has awarded $6,992 in grants as part of its 2017 Fall Collection Needs Assessment Program: Site Assessment and Supplies Grants.

The 2017 Fall Collection Needs Assessment Program: Site Assessment and Supplies Grant, administered by Greater Hudson Heritage Network in partnership with the New York State Council on the Arts, supports requests for site assessments and to purchase collection management supplies for qualified museums in New York State.

For the Fall grant funding cycle, 29 grant applications were received from institutions from 22 counties in New York State, requesting an aggregate of $20,020.77 in grant support. In all, 11 organizational awards totaling $6,992 were recommended for funding. The 2017 Collection Needs Assessment Program Grant awards range from $320 to $750. Continue reading

Awards are made to projects that exemplify creativity and professional vision resulting in a contribution to the preservation and interpretation of the historic scene, material culture and diversity of the region.

historic housekeeping made simpleThe Historical Society of Rockland County will host a workshop, Historic Housekeeping Made Simple on Tuesday, July 18 from 9:30 am to 4 pm.

Guided by Greater Hudson Heritage Network’s collection care professionals, participants will learn the proper hands-on methodology of collections care by working directly with collections at four locations in the Hudson Valley. Through train-the-trainer focus, this full-day workshop will equip attendees with the knowledge and skill sets necessary for cleaning, handling, and storing collections along with the tools to teach their volunteer base these critical skills. Historical Collections Supplies Grants Available

cnap supplies programGreater Hudson Heritage Network and New York Council on the Arts have announced the portal to apply for the first cycle of the new NYSCA/GHHN Collection Needs Assessment Program (CNAP) – Supplies Grant is now open. Applicants who have consulted with an appropriate professional may request funds to purchase collections management supplies. Supplies may include, but are not limited to: storage boxes, acid-free tissue paper, artifact trays, dividers, UV filtering film, Tyvek sheeting, tape, tags, labels, and environmental monitors, etc. Supply requests for archival or library collections will not be supported.
