The St. Lawrence County Historical Association has announced the inaugural event of its new series of tours.
The Historic North Country Village Talk & Walk will take place in Madrid, St. Lawrence County, on Saturday, May 12th, and will be led by Philip Paige.
Attendees will meet at the Hepburn Library, 11 Church Street, Madrid at 11 am, where Mr. Paige will give a talk on letters written by Sylvester J. Wright to the local newspaper in 1914. The letters were penned as a means of documenting life in early Madrid, focusing on topics ranging from early industry and social life to famous figures with Madrid roots, secret societies, politics, and more.
Following this, Mr. Paige will lead the group on a walking tour of downtown Madrid, with reference to the places discussed in the letters. The program will run from 11 am to approximately 12:30 pm, and is free and open to the public. No advance registration is required.
Future Talk & Walk programs are being planned for other St. Lawrence County communities, including Potsdam, Canton, Lisbon, and Ogdensburg.
