Greater Hudson Heritage 2017 Awards for Excellence Winners

ghhn annual conferenceThe 2017 Greater Hudson Heritage Network’s Awards for Excellence winners have been announced. The program seeks to recognize and commend exceptional efforts among GHHN members. Awards are made to projects that exemplify creativity and professional vision resulting in a contribution to the preservation and interpretation of the historic scene, material culture and diversity of the region.

The awards will be presented at the GHHN The Art of History Annual Conference on October 10, 2017 at Bard College, Annandale-On-Hudson, New York.

2017 Awards for Excellence are presented to:

“Henry H. Wells: The Man with the Flag”
Southeast Museum
Brewster (Putnam)
This award is in recognition of the development of  an exhibition at the Henry Wells Middle School in Brewster, NY. This collaborative project between four entities resulted in an educational exhibit on Mr. Wells, the middle school’s namesake entitled “Henry H. Wells: The Man with the Flag”.

Historic Preservation Floor Covering Project
Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum
Pelham Bay Park (Bronx)
This award is in recognition of the successful project completion of the historic preservation of the floor covering in the mansion’s front entrance hall, which included the challenges of keeping a close eye on historic accuracy, durability, and cost.

“Crossroads of Rockland History”
Historical Society of Rockland County
New City (Rockland)
This award is in recognition of the program “Crossroads of Rockland History,” the Historical Society of Rockland County’s radio broadcast/podcast program, which is moderated by volunteer Clare Sheridan and features different topics and guests each month.

“The Tappan Zee Bridge Experience: Past, Present & Future”
Historical Society of Rockland County
New City (Rockland)
This award is in recognition of the boat trip series the “Tappan Zee Bridge Experience” which brings new audiences to local history as they witness history in the making.

Irvington Historic District Design Guide & Recommendations
Irvington Historic District Committee and Stephen Tilly, Architect
Irvington (Westchester)
This award is in recognition of a collaboration between the Irvington Historic District Committee and Stephen Tilly, Architect, which has yielded the Irvington Historic District Design Guide & Recommendations – an illustrated manual to celebrate Irvington’s well-preserved past and to guide building owners in Irvington’s National Register Historic District on appropriate architectural interventions in their properties.

Civil War Focused Public Programs
Hudson River Museum
Yonkers (Westchester)
This award is in recognition of the Civil War focused public programs at the Hudson River Museum, presented in conjunction with their three Civil War focused exhibitions from October 2016 through May 2017.

“Ulster County Women of Note Project”
Ulster County Historical Society & Ellenville Public Library & Museum
Stone Ridge & Ellenville (Ulster)
This award is in recognition of the “Ulster County Women of Note Project” – a collaborative program celebrating the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the women’s right to vote and suffrage movement.

“Juneteenth: A Celebration of African Culture, Music, and Cuisine”
and “Reclaiming Our Time”
Historic Huguenot Street
New Paltz (Ulster)
This award is in recognition of “Juneteenth: A Celebration of African Culture, Music, and Cuisine,” an educational program presented by Historic Huguenot Street / “Reclaiming Our Time” a follow-up performance presented by Historic Huguenot Street and TMI Project
