2015 Common Core Conference Planned

State Education BuildingThe 2015 New York State Education Department/Office of Cultural Education Uncommon Approaches to the Common Core Conference will take place August 11 and 12, 2015. The Uncommon Approaches to the Common Core annual conference has a target audience of classroom teachers, school, public and academic librarians, public historians and representatives from museums, archives, public television, NYS historic sites, performing arts and other cultural institutions.

The purpose of the conference is to develop an understanding of the Common Core with the goal to create collaboration among classroom teachers and cultural institutions.

Russell Shorto, author of The Island at the Center of the World: The Epic Story of Dutch Manhattan and the Forgotten Colony That Shaped America and Amsterdam, A History of the World’s Most Liberal City will give the keynote address on August 12th, the second day. His talk will focus on the importance of inquiry in learning, including how he approaches research, finds sources, and bring them all together to finish a project, specifically as they relate to New York’s Dutch history.

The registration fee is $61; the registration deadline is July 17th and the payment deadline is August 3rd.
