Recent Publications: Bottoming Out (Fall 2011)

Bottoming Out is the journal of the Canal Society of New York State. It is published and sent to members of the Society twice a year. It features articles on the history of canals, trip previews and reviews, events calendar, and other “Useful and Interesting Notes”. See the Canal Society web page at www.newyorkcanals.org for more information. The Summer / Fall 2011 issue of Bottoming Out featured articles on:

-The proposed Port Byron Old Erie Canal Heritage Park, which when completed, will become the headquarters for the Society, and a one of a kind tourist park on the NYS Thruway.

“Tragedy at the Saratoga Dam” by Mike Bielkiewicz is about the investigation of a canal boat accident at Lock 10 on the Champlain Canal, and how the truth and folklore mixed.

Doug Farley writes about the visit of General LaFayette to Lockport, NY.

David Minor continues his “Mileposts: NYS Canals through the Years,” a timeline of canal events that is a on-going feature of Bottoming Out.

A Review of the 2011 Spring Trip to the Champlain Canal, and other articles of canal interest.
